Procedures

Breast Enlargement (Augmentation)

Your concerns: Small breasts and volume loss after breast feeding.
Solution: Breast implants
Surgery: Gel-implants are placed from a small incision beneath the breast. This operation could also be combined with a breast lift if sagging is excessive.
Placement of the implant will be behind the breast if you have enough breast tissue to cover the implant. If the tissue in the décolletage (cleavage) area is less than 2cm, the implant needs to be placed behind the muscle to prevent visibility and wrinkling of the implant.
Additional info: Breast implants are no risk to one’s health and do not interfere with breast feeding or the detection of breast disease. The safety of silicone implants has been acknowledged by the FDA.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Your concerns: Sagging breasts
Solution: Breast lift
Surgery: The nipple is raised to a new position above the breast fold while the skin envelope of the breast is tightened with skin removal.
Additional info: The operation should preferably be done after pregnancies. Breast feeding is not advised after surgery.

Breast Reduction

Your concerns: Very large breasts
Solution: Breast reduction
Surgery: Breast tissue and skin are removed. This is done under general anaesthesia. Overnight stay is required.

Removal of Excess Breast Tissue in Males (Gynaecomastia Repair)

Your concerns: Excess breast tissue in male (male breasts)
Solution: Gynaecomastia Repair
Surgery: This procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breast and may be combined with liposuction. An incision is made either on the edge of the areola or under the arm area and, in extreme cases, excess skin is also removed.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Your concerns: An excess of fat and skin around your stomach area.
Solution: Tummy tuck
Surgery: Excess fat and skin are removed from the lower abdomen, the remaining skin is re-draped and the underlying muscles tightened. Your navel will be repositioned. The procedure is done under general anaesthesia with overnight stay. A mini-abdominoplasty addresses only the lowermost part of the abdomen, usually combined with liposuction.
Additional info: You are only eligible if you are not obese, have completed your family and have sufficient soft tissue to remove.

Fat Fills (Transfer)

Your concerns: Contour abnormalities of the sub-cutaneous tissue.
Solution: Fat transfer / Fat grafts
Surgery: Human fat cells harvested from your own body with liposuction techniques can be re-injected to areas of contour deformities. For example uneven buttock, breast areas after trauma or reconstruction

Body Lift

Your concerns: Excessive skin all over the body after massive weight loss.
Solution: Body lift
Surgery: Excessive skin in the chest, breast, back, arms, trunk, thighs and buttocks are removed after careful planning by yourself and the surgeon. This is usually done in separate procedures as this is lengthy surgery.
Additional info: Patient having lost excessive weight due to gastric bypass surgery is usually candidates for these procedures

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Your concerns: Loose underarm skin
Solution: Brachioplasty
Surgery: Resection of the excess underarm skin is done, usually in combination with liposuction.
Additional info: Patients must be deserving of surgery as the scars on the inside of the arms are difficult to hide.

Liposuction

Your concern : Contour abnormalities and exercise resistant fat stores

Solution : Liposuction / Liposculpting to improve your contour

Surgery : Removal of excess subcutaneous fat should improve those areas that regular exercise just won’t fix!
It is mostly genetically predisposed. Targeting the deeper layers of the adipose layer will prevent contour irregularities caused by too superficial or over-aggressive liposuction. We rely on the elasticity of your skin to re-drape into the areas where the fat was removed. If you have too much excess skin, resection of the skin will also be indicated for the best aesthetic result.

Addition info : Liposuction can be performed under general or sedation anaesthesia depending on the amount of liposuction required.

Eyelid Lift – Upper and Lower (Blepharoplasty)

Your concerns: Drooping upper eyelids and/or baggy lower eyelids.
Solution: Blepharoplasty
Surgery: Excess skin is removed from the upper eyelids and fat causing lower lid bagginess is modified to rejuvenate the eyes. This procedure is done under local anaesthesia and you don’t stay overnight.
Additional info: It will not remove crow’s feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under the eyes or lift sagging eyebrows.
Recovery period: Due to bruising patients keep a low profile for the first week.

Full Face and Neck Lift (Rhytidectomy)

Your concerns: Sagging facial skin, jowls and loose neck skin.
Solution: Rhytidectomy or mini-rhytidectomy.
Surgery: The skin and layers beneath it are tightened. Sometimes a blepharoplasty (improving upper and lower eyelids) is done at the same time. A mini-lift addresses mainly the cheek and jowl area.
Additional info: Liposuction below the chin is often part of the procedure.

Nasal Improvement (Rhinoplasty)

Your concerns: Unshapely nose
Solution: Rhinoplasty
Surgery: The nose is reshaped by altering the size, removing or adding tissue and narrowing and refining the tip. This is usually combined with surgery of the septum in conjunction with an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon.

Prominent Ear Repair (Otoplasty)

Your concerns: Prominent Ears
Solution: Otoplasty
Surgery: Incisions are made behind the ears to reshape the cartilage. This is a very meticulous procedure. This can be done under conscious sedation in adults.
Additional info: The preferred age for correction is around 5 years of age in children.

Chin surgery :  I do not perform chin implants / surgical genioplasty.

The new range of Juvederm VOLUX filler has been very successful for chin and jawline reshaping.

Scar Revision

Your concerns: Prominent or unsightly scars
Solution: Scar revision
Surgery: Scars can sometimes be improved by surgical revision, but never removed.
Additional info: Kelloids can be treated by revision and radiotherapy, but recurrence can still occur

Botox

Your concerns: Frown lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, excessive sweating. Looking for a “fresher/friendlier” appearance.
Solution: Botox
Procedure: Botox is indicated for dynamic lines in the face. Usually to the upper third of the face. Botox (a natural purified protein) is injected into the muscles that have caused the wrinkles. Within a few days of treatment the lines cannot be accentuated by muscle action. You can return to normal activities immediately afterwards.

Botox is also effective in treating localised excessive sweating e.g. underarm sweating.

Additional info: The Botox effect lasts for 3 – 4 months. Botox is the most frequent non-surgical cosmetic procedure being performed in the world.

Filler Injections for Skin Rejuvenation

Your concerns: Ageing and volume loss
Solution: Fillers
Procedure: This pure, crystal clear gel is injected into the facial soft tissue. It contains a naturally occurring substance, hyaluronic acid. This is injected into areas of static wrinkles for example the folds alongside the mouth (naso-labial folds) which absorbs water into its 3D structure to enhance volume. It can also be injected into the cheek bones with a special cannula to enhance volume. The lips are especially well suited for fillers without overdoing it. I believe in a natural look.
Additional info: Fillers have different thicknesses and will last around 6 months – 1 year depending on the area, amount given and amount of volume loss that needs to be corrected

Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction should be individualised and discussed by the multi professional team involved. Reconstruction can be done at the same time as a mastectomy and lumpectomy. This is called immediate breast reconstruction. Nowadays this is done more frequently in order to let the patient wake up with a partial reconstructed breast to make the loss of a breast less traumatic. It can also be done as a delayed procedure after chemo and radiotherapy have been completed.

Options:

Prosthetic reconstruction: Tissue expanders and silicone implants.
Autologous (own) tissue: Tissue from the tummy is used. This is called a TRAM flap and has the advantage of also having a tummy tuck as part of the procedure.
Combination of Autologous tissue and implants: Skin and muscle from the back (Lattisimus Dorsi flap) used to reconstruct a breast and a silicone implant is used to obtain volume in the breast.

Skin Cancer

Malignant Melanoma:

Your concerns: Pigmented lesion on especially sun exposed areas that changes in size, colour or starts bleeding.
Diagnosis: Malignant Melanoma until proven otherwise.
Surgery: Wide local excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy to exclude spread.

Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma:

Your concerns: None healing of ulcerating skin lesion in sun exposed areas.
Surgery: Although not as dangerous as melanoma, skin cancers needs complete excision in order to prevent local spread or spread to glands if neglected.
